I wondered how on this is they managed to make 2 columns editable in wordpress (possibly 3 if you take into account the header image)... is there a way in wordpress of having multi regions on a page text editor? as in within the text editor you have a header image area, a main content area and a secondary content area?
any help would be great

Look into custom fields.

Just had a peek at them and they look great! But from the looks of it you need to manually add the custom fields to each page which for the client is a nightmare....hmmmm

you could use the <!--read more--> tag in wordpress and a little php code to split the content on that read more tag.
in your loop:
1. assign content to variable
2. split content on read-more tag
3. output a column for each 'part'that was the simplest way for my client to get the content into two columns

You can use a plugin that allows you to use separate divs as columns when you add a quick tag. You have to set up a theme for those pages with the ammount of columns you need and your client would have to be comfortable to add a quick tag.
