neue75, there's a difference between valid criticism from a reputable source and some trolls blindly hating on someone's work (out of jealousy, perhaps). to call ness's work mediocre and to liken it to student work is just dumb.
he's obviously accomplished, widely published, and while you might not like his site, it's just wrong to call his work medicore or unfinished.
- but that's his opinion. why do we feel the need to validate everything?7point34
- "it's just wrong" seriously?neue75_bold
- nostradamus is a reputable source working in the "industry" who's been a longstanding member of thisneue75_bold
- "community" pretty much since day one and if you'd paid much attention over the years, this is what he's known for..neue75_bold
- I, for one, welcome it in this often desolate, opinionless, vapid, jock riding parade...neue75_bold
- at least it starts discussion in what would otherwise be a pointless thread...neue75_bold

hmm. "empty praise" is somehow bad, but nonconstructive and harsh criticism backed up by absolutley nothing is ok?
it's always the folks with the links to a google page or a qbn topic or a placeholder site who are the most vociferous in their critiques. i think it's fair to ask what gives them the right....
- they are a viewer. like 99% of the population which has no portfolio because they aren't designers.7point34
- asking to see someone else's work has absolutely nothing to do with validating an opinion.7point34
- that's like saying the consumer has no valid opinion either, yet they are the audience7point34
- yes, but a portfolio at least shows competencelambsy
- I agree they don't need a portfolio...just a brain.ukit

why does it always end up "Let's see what you got" when somebody offers their perspective on someone else's work? That's got nothing to do with anything... I don't think Rick Poynor has a "kick ass" folio yet he still offers some of the best writing and criticism on contemporary graphic design...
whatever, continue your collegial back patting and empty praise..

I like the fact that you're forced to interact with the work. Didn't find the interface too awkward... a nice simple idea -> [1] author one large image per page .. [2] get user to pan around it with their mouse like it's a zoomed-in photoshop / illustrator image.
It's a shame there's no cue that the navigation has changed once you get to the 'store' section. I found that confusing. Even just a divider entry in the pull-down, might have helped.
I think risk and narrative are two things which are often missing from a lot of sites, and this one tries to address that.

you really are some kind of ironic, douchebaggy troll nostradamus.
a real client; did you even look through his work? it includes some ace work across a variety of mediums, and he even has some excellent pieces for the obama campaign and various charitable causes towards relief efforts in NOLA.
he's one of the most—if not the most—creative people i've worked with. go leave your troll droppings in another thread.

could you imagine if IAAH was handed a real project for a real client? Helping a charity, or rebranding a local business? You know, a project with accountabilty?
He'd fucking fail miserably.
The only meat and potatoes, realistic project in the portfolio is the Mazda website. And it was headed and directed by a real firm (Sarkissian Mason), IAAH just did illustrations again.
Some of you need to consider what contributions you are making to this world outside of a *.PSD.

Awesome and inspiring.

I went back to this site and I still don't like the drag to navigate, but since it's a full frame site, I like panning around some of the images/sections.
This one is particularly mind-blowing, even the ending blows me away.

I dig. Nice colour sense and dope type.
Kinda reminds me of David Carson.

Beautiful work as always, Mr. Higson. For what it's worth, I think the navigation is interesting—and I usually have a very low tolerance for interfaces that have to be figured out. :)

awful website, mediocre work.
Most of these projects are unfinished or look like student work.
