Got a nikon d40x about a year ago and just recently the flash has suddenly started to act up.
The camera doesn't flash at all now, but every now and again it will flash randomly after maybe 50 shots and gives a way overexposed shot.
I've found a few tutorials online as to how to fix this by taking the camera's flash apart... sounds pretty suspect to me..
Anyone here have a similar issue with a flash?
Or do I just send it off to Nikon and give them the price of a new camera to fix it?

that has a shoe for external flash right? I'd just get a decent flash. That's your cheapest and easiest route.
I'd even bet you could get a decent used flash unit for like 25.

thanks flashbender, yeah went to my local shop they had a look were trying to sell me one for 150, looked decent, but yeah im sure i could pick up a used one for really cheap!
it probably the best option, and i wont have to use the crappy inbuilt flash anymore too.. they do suck
