Hej, stroopwaffles.
A few years back there was a lot of talk of representative digital avatars, using 3rd party tech to convert headshot photos of budding punters into 3D wireframes that could then be used in-game and on-net.
My question to you lovely people - did this ever take off in any meaningful way, and - if so, who were the main providers of the tech?
Thanking you!

morning sir. I don't recall if it ever got off the ground in a serious commercial way but I do remember a member on here posting a 'spooks' mini site where you upload an image of your face and it puts it on the characters noggin in the viral video. Is that the kind of thingy you're thinking of?
Can't for the life of me remember who it was though.
- myello, chap! I'm more looking for the mass-market, branded full 3d solution, if it exists at all.detritus

I think it was a feature on either a Tiger Woods golf game or one of the skater series games

Hmm, the version I recall definitely used more just a front image - taking in at least a side shot too.
Perhaps it was some booth-based idea, which kind've infers that what I'm after won't be at all widespread. Ho hum.
Thanks for all the useful responses though, mein stroopwaffles!
