how does one do this?
is there a happier, easier way to do it for a non-coder than this kind of thing:

What about this

the trick is shooting it properly then using stitch software to merge the images.

the stitching software is easy, shooting it so the light is even may require testing and photo lighting knowledge, depending on the location.... One trick is to bounce a bright flash off the ceiling. Also note that initial camera location is very important when shooting QTVR-like pans. I use a special panoramic head on my tripod called a "panosaurus" and I bring a laptop to the shoot so I can make sure my initial frames will be squarely aligned, not getting converging lines in the wrong way....
