Is there any downside to using this? It seems too good to be true...

dopest shit on Earth.

I'm kinda testing it out on this little site of mine:
If there are no problems with it on this site, I'll start using it on professional sites.
- i cant seem to select the type...baseline_shift
- Shit you're right. I guess it's a fair sacrifice for a site that's mainly for photo galleries from parties.schjetne
- Tested again, same browser, and another browser, and suddenly I can select just fine. Better than SIFR.schjetne
- WTF is that site about?era4O4
- Some foreign language bullshit.schjetne

Only downside is a:hover color doesn't work. You can underline and add a background color on hover, but no change of color.

ive heard there are some issues with list items and rollover states.
- ukit0
Rollover states is a pretty small downside;)

"Cufon is hot" - Paris Hilton
- your site is hot.styleplus_amillion

- here's where I'm using it:
http://blkwrld.com/c…styleplus_amillion - yeah - agree. clrblnd's site rox.bigtrick

I've been using it for a few months now. it's wonderful.
I don't do silly things like putting Cufón elements in list items, though.
I also don't link Cufón elements... as I don't expect that level of functionality to be polished at all.

- Both front and back are in error. Cool morphing handbag though.comicsans

Major drawback to me is lack of copy and paste in the substituted text. The fonts don't appear if you print the page. OK for menus I guess. What's the performance hit?
- schjetne0
I just copied and pasted text from the site I posted. You're doing it wrong maybe?
- nope. New firefox on OSX10.5.8. And ill be fucked if im gonna open another browser.baseline_shift
- Perhaps, on this page http://clubneverland…
I cannot copy the text "Rocky Horror Picture Show vs TLC", FFox on a maccomicsans - exactly.baseline_shift
- Ffox on a mac. If JS disabled I can copy but not see the effect. If enabled I can see effect but not copycomicsans
- With Safari I can can select some text (not 1st word) but the copied text does not pastecomicsans

its shit

Performance hit is too bad if not used on large bodies of text. Better than sifr. Can't copy & paste (as it redraws the letterforms on a canvas element) sounds like the major drawback.
- i meant the performance hit is NOT too bad.iamaracinghorse
- Yes, lack of C&P and inability to print means most people will think the web page is broken. Shame.comicsans
- I just copied and pasted, Safari 4.0.3 or something, OSX.schjetne
- jerseyred0
I just used it for about 30+ department shelf headers for an eCommerce site and it's great, especially for a company without existing h1 and h2 tags
- ukit0
If Mozilla is using Canvas to run an entire application, would the performance hit even be an issue?
- baseline_shift0
also, when i do searches in the browser, it wont find stuff thats been 'cufoned'
- I hadn't noticed that. That's a pain...iamaracinghorse
- Jesus Christ, this cufon thing seems less and less usable. I might have to reconsider. Any alternatives?schjetne
- kerus0
cufon keeps a span there with your original text content in it, firebug is your friend
- styleplus_amillion0
^baseline_shift
wrongo... All Cufon text is fully indexable...
you must be mistaken.

I had concern with highlighting text.
Interoperation of WCAG 2.0 guidelines 1.4.8.1 and 1.4.9
http://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG20/#vis…1.4.8 Visual Presentation: For the visual presentation of blocks of text, a mechanism is available to achieve the following: (Level AAA)
1. Foreground and background colors can be selected by the user.and
1.4.9 Images of Text (No Exception): Images of text are only used for pure decoration or where a particular presentation of text is essential to the information being conveyed. (Level AAA)
So cufon fails at AAA.
else:
- legal issues with the font
- reloading the page for font sizing
- I think it has to be a PC font.
