Our web client just asked for it. Anyone know? I'm sure it's just some simple thing I'm ignorant about.

Your client is making up shit. He's just asking for what the backend is like, and he's assuming you're using a premade set of "tools".

Are they referring to a content management system? for updating/managing/adding content?

Ok, thanks guys.
There's no CMS or anything, it's just a simple html site.

So there are no backend tools then. Did they expect a CMS?
- No backend tools. The site they received is exactly as discussed. Just a simple html site. They don't know what they're talking about and the question caught me off guard.ChickenCrab

he'll have a 14 year old nephew who has frontpage, told him to ask this. only tool is the client.
- The owner has a cousin who does "web design" who has given him a lot of "advice". I'm assuming this is something from him.ChickenCrab

Tell him you've never been much for backend, and that if you're going to stick your tool anywhere it'll definitely not be there.
