Has anyone any experience importing a 3D objects into after effects? Is it possible? Please don't tell me invigorator is the only option, does cs4 have anything?

Only via invigorator, as far as I know. Haven't used CS4.
Not counting the ability to import camera/light info from cinema 4D.

As far as I'm aware you can import nulls and moves fro cinema 4d and also different passes. Pretty sure you can't import models/textures etc. to be edited on the fly in the 2d program

Photoshop CS4 3D objects (via a .psd) can be rotated and lit i think but I've never tried it
These plugins might be handy to an extent

AE3D is sort of a bare bones option for people that dont know things like Maya or 3DS Max. you can import them but its never gonna look like it does in a real 3d app.

as fiesta says, you can import wavefront .obj objects into photoshop. you can then import this psd into after effects. it's a horrific workflow, but doable in a pinch.

The Zaxwerks plugin is decent enough, but I've never relied on it for more than 3D text or basic shapes with real simple textures. Just used it for the first time in a couple years yesterday actually, and I still find it a bit cumbersome.
