I have an iMac and a MacBook and I want to be able to transfer files between the two without having to use an ftp site. What is the best way to do this? Do i need to buy software to do so? Both computers are running wirelessly.

You can network firewire to firewire, you don't need to use disk mode.

I know about targeting with a FW cable. Was looking for a solution across wireless.

Have you figured out to just turn on File Sharing on both and then use Go > 'Connect to Server' to mount the other hard drive on each Mac's desktop? (Speed 54mbps to 300mbps depending if G or N WiFi)

DropBox is also great, but currently slow for local transfers with big files (they are fixing that in next version... it will do local transfers directly on the local network, before synching to the web service)

not what you want probably but one of these works well for me on home wireless network: http://www.maxtor.com/en/hard-dr…

Also, you don't need to set up Shared folders if you are just logging in as yourself from the other Mac. Setting up Shared folders is just for sharing with other users.

if you see the other computer's icon in finder (you should if you're on the same wireless network), click it and log on as that mac's user remotely. You can browse it freely.
