Uh Corvo2? Designers solve problems. We don't exist in art school, we exist in the real world of business.
Therefore, we are held to reality's standards.
- Nostradamus0
Corvo, what perspective do you judge work from? Some art school fantasy land that thinks pissing in a bottle is "brilliant" and "subversive"?
You're a hack.
- You sound like a hack.allornothing
- No, you!Nostradamus

"Designers solve problems?" - Corvo2
Yes, we solve problems. A mechanic fixes a car problem. Designers fix a communication problem.
Don't flatter yourself by thinking we're "artists" or some shit. If you want to call yourself a designer, don't come up with piss in a bottle and think you're doing the job of a designer. Same way I wouldn't piss in my car's gas tank and call myself a mechanic.
- I'm not pissing in a bottle, nor purporting to solve problems. Design solves nothing.Corvo2
- seems mostly designers talk hot air just like welders. You should see how passionate welders are about weldingPupsipu
- Proof being problems persist.Corvo2

- You designed Google.com? Nice back-up.dMullins

"design communicates the message, art is the message"
- Corvo20
I judge work for its formal aspects solely. Mainly, how it is drawn or executed. I don't give a shit about market, companies or how it will sell.
- MrDinky0
There are difference between aesthetical value and concept.
- allornothing0
Nostradamus, you sound PISSED.
- Nostradamus0
um formality isn't worth a shit. Execution can be awful for all I care.
lol @ giving a shit at how well something is drawn. What, you still take your client project to mum and ask her to hang your work on the Fridge door? "Oh Corvo, you're so talented! You stayed inside the lines!"
It's the concept that's king, not execution. Just give us something to think about.
- Nostradamus0
"There are difference between aesthetical value and concept."
Agreed. Guess which one is truly important?

"Execution can be awful for all I care".
Sounds like the words of an inadequate advertiser to me.

Where's MrDinky at? I don't honestly believe he's not trolling at this hour.
yawn i'm going to bed, i think i'll read some
- cannonball19780
The chair - he didn't make a good chair to sit in. He came up with some asshole concept by playing around with letterforms. Fail at making a chair.
The rest of the portfolio - not really memorable. Seriously... body fluids as drinks? Come on.
Also... how do people get a sense that he's employable form this portfolio? Where are you getting the idea for future ad agency work from this?
"Ok Ku, lets see your concepts for the magazine inserts."
<cue some origami circus bullshit>
"Ok thats great Ku. We know you're clever. Now STFU and show us something realistic that says something about the actual brand."
- cannonball19780
"It's the concept that's king, not execution. Just give us something to think about."
a) concept by itself is just a fart in the wind
b) irrelevant concept, however clever and well executed, is a good portrait of a fart in the wind

When exactly was Eric Ku a young gun? I was under the impression we were to keep silent on the winners until the official announcement in late October :p

devoured by QBN. if his portfolio was meant to stir discussion...it has worked.
