I absolutely hate the Eagles and now I am ashamed to be from Philly with the signing of a convicted felon named Michael Vick.

Fuck yeah!!!! It's only fitting that we take him. Lets see what Andy Reid will do with him...

Man, so many people I know and their friends getting worked up on Facebook right, not even bothering to realize he IS NOT a starter, and won't even be eligible to play a game at all until October.
Not defending him - the guy is a fucking creep deluxe. Just saying - read the fine print.

philly = classless organization.

The guy did his time and seems remorseful. If we did something really, really, stupid and served the time/accepted the punishment for it, wouldn't you want a second chance?
- Generally speaking, a vast majority of convicted felons do not get second chances.utopian
- < Employers do background checks on everyoneutopian
- I'm not debating how many felons get second chances, just that you would want one.Palindrome

^ Michael conVICK seems remorseful? He slaughters innocent dogs, shot them in the head, beat them to death with shovels, electrocuted them to death, starved his dogs to death, etc... I am not talking about one dog, we are talking about dozens of innocent dogs over a period of years. He is only sorry that he caught and lost his multi-million dollar football contract. Please do not be so naive, Vick is sub-human and does not deserve a second chance, period!

I'm not defending him. But I think everyone has the capacity to redeem themselves. Plus, the NFL isn't new to giving second chances to players.
In the 90s, Christian Peter, defensive tackle, was arrested eight times at Nebraska, where he was twice accused of rape — charges resulting in one out-of-court settlement and another conviction for sexual assault. Though the Patriots relinquished their draft rights to Peter, he would eventually play for three NFL teams.
Then there was Peter's Nebraska teammate, Lawrence Phillips, who pleaded to a brutal domestic abuse case before St. Louis took him with the sixth pick in 1996. Phillips would be arrested three times over the next 19 months. Later, the Dolphins would release him after he was accused of hitting a woman in a bar. Of course, that incident proved an insufficient deterrent for the 49ers who also gave him a shot.
Rams defensive end Leonard Little. In 1998, while driving drunk, he ran a red light and killed Susan Gutweiler, a 47-year-old wife and mother.
Jamal Lewis, a convicted drug trafficker, was suspended for all of two games.
Finally, there's Ray Lewis, who pleaded to obstruction of justice in a double-murder case. Today, he's more of a hero than ever.
- Okay, go kill dozens of dogs, get caught go to jail and see how many opportunities you will get once you get out.utopian
- Of course I'd go to jail and maybe not get a second chance. I'm not a skilled QB. He has something the NFL wants.Palindrome
- bingo!utopian
- But if he's served his time, shouldn't he have the right to go back to what he was doing?Palindrome
- Now whether anyone would want to hire him is another question. But I guess the Eagles did.Palindrome

I think the heat is coming down on half of the right people here. Yes, to answer Palindrome's question, I WOULD want a second chance if this was me. People arent upset that he WANTS another chance; he'd be crazy NOT to want another chance. Where people are getting upset, and I am one of them, is the leniency that Goodell and the Eagles are giving him. Sure, Goodell SAID he could play, but it was one of those catch-22's for a team in that they could pick up a very talented QB (although, its arguable that his style would have the same kind of play it used to) but in doing so, they take on the scarlet letter. Any team that picked him up was going to get a lot of hate-mail. Can you imagine what PETA has in-store for them? I wonder if Vick will still be an Eagle on opening day?

What identity said. I thought they were going to wait 'til mid-season to reinstate him, now he'll be the focus of this season which sucks. There's so much better stuff going on in the NFL.

The NFL is a bunch of hypocrites, period!
