Its interesting. It was definitely in the original comics.
I'm sure Folkert had no idea when he create it. (no sarcasm intended)

Good call. I don't remember him having that. He did have a red symbol at one point but early Snake (mid 80s) was all black if I remember. They had so many variants over the years tho, it could've come from one of those.
But yes, that either a total rip or an amazing coincidence.....

Haha, that table on Wikipedia clears it all up:
☱ the Joyous, Open swamp, marsh west third daughter mouth pleasure tranquil (complete devotion) sheep
☲ the Clinging, Radiance fire south second daughter eye
☳ the Arousing, Shake thunder east first son foot inciting movement initiative horse
☴ the Gentle, Ground wind southeast first daughter thigh penetrating gentle entrance fowl
☵ the Abysmal, Gorge water north second son ear dangerous in-motion pig
☶ Keeping Still, Bound mountain northeast third son hand resting, stand-still completion wolf, dog
☷ kūn the Receptive, Field earth southwest mother belly devoted, yielding receptive cow

so the mansion logo "reads" wind and water... based on the iching translation? i would have used fire... to be a bastard.

that's not a rip....the sequence is different and it's such a basic concept.
