Hi all,
I'm going to buy my Dad a digital SLR for his birthday and need some advice.
He's got an old film one that he never uses anymore and it's got this type of focus viewfinder on it, I think it's called 'Split Image Focusing'.
Basically, I'm looking for a good camera that has this 'Split Image Focusing' feature for under £500. I've been looking at the Nikon D40 but it doesn't have this feature. Can anyone help?
Would be eternally grateful if anyone could help me on this,
Many thanks

i dont think digital slrs use that system anymore. i may be wrong, but i havn't seen it. i think it was only a film thing...

Do you really need it?
I think he's just used to using it so has it stuck in his head that he needs it otherwise he won't be able to focus on anything!

isn't that from the lens, not the body?

It was used in the '70/'80s but it's not in use anymore, because this system was for manual-lenses only! You can install a split-focus screen in your DSLR > http://haodascreen.com/CanonDSLR…

I know very little about DSLRs so I'm kinda throwing myself to the wolves here, any help would be really appreciated.
I've found this...

SLR's seem to use multi focus spots... some up to dozens..
I just bought a Canon 1000D works like a dream for what I need, So happy with it. Feels like loads of camera for the money, only £350 with 18-55mm lens chucked in the pack.

Pick one with replaceable matte screen, ie. my 5D has a custom grid one. I think Pentax K20d has that feature too.

The D40's limitations don't bug me too much, though I wish it had auto bracketing and bursts of more than three shots. All told, works great for someone like me.
