Damn, I missed this one ... yesterday afternoon the german online shop, OTTO, had a glitch in their system and was selling MacBook Pros and MacBook Airs for 50 euros! Some extremely happy customers out there, I'm sure ... unless they don't honor the sales, but that would be very bad business, I'd say.

yeah, they're going to sell a laptop for €50 to 'honour a sale'. fuckoff. if you believe that i've got a nigerian on the phone who really needs your bank details to help you make money...

have there been some cheap lobotomy deals lately that i missed?

In some countries they would have too... that's the danger of an online fully automated system. You can't just wear one loss and change everything before the next sale.

Most sensible online vendors have an "errors and omissions" cop-out. In the UK and almost certainly everywhere else with sensible laws, a contract is only enforceable if the seller accepts the buyers offer to buy.
Even if the system is automated and you get an acknowledgement or receipt they will have some way to wriggle out of it. e.g. argue you must have realised the offer could not be genuine and hence were acting in bad faith. What are you going to do? refuse to buy any more $50 laptops?
