Getting an SLR this week, can anyone recommend any books for a newbie. I have a good one on Exposure from Bryan Peterson.

the best way to learn lighting is to be a commercial photo lighting assistant for a while to some high end photographers if you live in a big city and have a schedule that allows it....

While technical expertise is important... Don't forget that the social comment, and/or the concept behind the photo (or series) is equally if not more important. So here are a couple that illustrate a theme incredibly well from my collection.
