A couple of friends been cooking an idea about a Social site about "used car buyers". A site for used car sellers.
A place where users post what car (color, trim) they're looking for including a maximum monthly payment or buy price. Dealers and private seller can browse people to sell cars to, or give a deal.
I'm just looking to see if something like this exists already? Responses and URIs much appreciated!

Did you do a search for "buy used cars?"

Yeah, there are definitely lots of sites doing this already.
You might be able to get into the market if you limit it to personal sellers only, but if you open it up to Dealers, it's going to be nothing more than a site for them to spam like crazy. Why would anyone want to go through a 3rd party instead of going directly to the dealer (be it their site or lot) if this is the case? Just curious.
- I was thinking instead of doing a search for a used car, to let the dealers/private know what you're looking for and let them send the info. Spam, you're right.MACAS0
- Ahh I got it, more of a "wanted" kind of site. I still think it would be cool to limit it to personal sellers, not dealers.designbot
- Yes, I can see where spam from dealers might be a problem, unless limited somehow through the site, thanks for the input.MACAS0

Jejejeje, thanks for the responses so far, but it's not a directory/search of used cars, it's a directory of people looking to buy an used car. It's like search for dealers or people that are selling their cars :)

Littlewoods are doing exactly the same thing for clothes

its an attempt by them to take back the ASOS market

Along these lines?

"it's a directory of people looking to buy an used car"
Wouldn't this be the be-all end-all of inviting spam? Just sayin
- True, but what about registration to send a request from dealer/private?MACAS0
- I guess, but seems to be a lot of resources for that already.harlequino

Ummmm, trouble is I don't buy a car every day, so not sure how the numbers would ramp up. Communities work because people waste their time on them every day. A car is purchased once every couple/3/10 years. So not sure how the social side of it would work.

I think the idea is an interesting one, however I wonder if there are that many successful examples of this kind of "come to me" model of buying out there. You'd think it would be nice for the consumer, but as harlequino says, how do you filter out useful offers from spam? There just isn't enough time to review every message on a large scale site.
These people would also presumably be exposing at least some of their personal information (unless you told people not to use their real names) so there is a challenge there in terms of privacy.

@ukit. Spam, as @harlequino says might be a problem. We're thinking on solving the spam problem by requiring registration by the dealers/private in order to send requests to the users and avoid spam by requiring communication per registered car, and only the make/model the user is looking for.
Personal info, if any, will be handled by the site, that is until the time of closing the deal.
It's just an idea and they're working on it, I just wanted to find out if there's something like that outthere.
Thanks for your responses.
