Still unbelievable. If you check out the extended slo-mo launch on Youtube, it's unbelievable.

I can recommend the miniseries named "from the earth to the moon" and the discovery science series "moon machines". They are both epic and gives you the "back to the future" feeling. The guys back then really knew what they where doing!

Fucking hell. The year I was born. Forty years ago before that day was the ’29 Stock Market crash.
*insert “old man” joke here.

and they honor it with a $200 animation

Also, watch 'The Right Stuff' if you get a chance. Epic film about choosing the first astronauts.
- Or read the book of course.JerseyRaindog

I remember when it happened. I was in Edinburgh on vacation with my parents. Everyone was so excited, and watched it on TV. People kept coming up to us saying things like, "Oh, you Americans must be so proud" or "You Americans have really done it this time!"
At the time, with the Concorde having recently come out, and with the US going to the moon, it just seemed like travel was going to explode, and that soon we'd be going anywhere, and faster all the time.
But that wasn't to be. We only went to the moon a few times, and then stopped. The whole Concorde thing fizzled too.
And travel is probably worse now than it was in the 1960s--airlines are so crowded, and the passengers are treated like cattle.

I was 6 years old. I remember that week thinking if I looked at the moon, maybe I could see the flag, or lunar module. Of course you couldn't see the astronauts. That would be silly. I watched all the Apollo missions after that and quite a few leading up to it. Damn, it's scary having 40 year old memories.

Restored Apollo 11 Moon Walk Video about to be released at 11:00am Eastern time here...
- ghandolf0
Bah.. not that good yet. They are only 3 weeks into a project to restore what is already available, not any new footage. They expect to deliver 4 complete EVA scenes digitally restored in September. These are 'slo-scan' videos that have to be scan converted, and are not broadcast quality videos. They are looking a little better though already.. The original video from the moon cameras are only 320 lines of resolution. The videos will never be as good as what we've become accustomed to seeing in this day and age.
