"Sure, we may not be known in the in circles. We may not fill the pages of design annuals. And we may never see our names in lights. But, we do know how to save the rain forest with a waterproof book. We do know how to build a park with a postcard. And we know how to bring water to a community with a few pages of newsprint.

We are part of a design movement. We believe that ability equals responsibility. And we are not the only ones. So, we built a lab where designers like you can make a difference. We are building the tools that will build the future. And this is where you come in."

A few colleagues of mine have become extremely interested in this organization. A good friend of mine is currently participating with them down in Greensboro, Alabama. She seems to love it and the idea that a designer can 'affect positive change' through graphic design.

Now, I'm all for it, yet something about the nature of this organization (and similar workshops) screams self validation. I keep thinking of how their production methods must still rely on unsustainable products (ie: macbooks, printers manufactured in china, hazardous inks, etc).

Ultimately I think it's great if design can help the greater good, but I always understood that I went into design for two reasons: 1) because I have a need and desire for creative expression 2) it's fucking bankable.

Please discuss how you feel about Project M or simliar organizations.
