"Quotes are the incisiveness of those who have none."

Nothing wrong with using quotes here and there. I just felt like I'd heard something like that before, really think it sums up the relationship between work and play, and I don't want to plagiarize. I'd rather avoid "someone once said something like the following..."
- I was kidding Matt, quotes are ok if they fit and aren't too cheesyjimbojones

^ I agree, but I also think that quotes are made for plagiarism. Quotes are misquoted and improved upon all the time - I wouldn't worry... say what you want to say and put anonymous.

“Sometimes I think the surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that none of it has tried to contact us.”Bill Watterson.

The problem with crediting the quote as anonymous is that most of the people I'm going to send this promo to are very well-read and largely over-educated.
- Maybe I'll just heavily reword it and hope for the bestScotch_Roman
- eh, maybe just drop it? or write own copy, no quote needed?jimbojones

As an outsider to your concept, may I add that you may come across as a conceited, pretentious tosser using this quote as part of a self-promotion.
Of course, this may indeed be part of your larger plan, what do I know?

quote it like so:
"When man is at work, he is partially engaged. When man is at play, he is fully engaged."

We are at our very best, and we are happiest, when we are fully engaged in work we enjoy on the journey toward the goal we’ve established for ourselves. It gives meaning to our time off and comfort to our sleep. It makes everything else in life so wonderful, so worthwhile.~ Earl Nightingale

Max, I'll describe the idea for you. I don't think it will make me seem like a pretentious tosser to potential clients, but of course you're entitled to arrive at your own conclusions.
The promo piece in question is a small perfect-bound book. Printing only 100, digitally. The tentative title is Work = Play. It's basically my portfolio in print for prospective clients only. Much more straightforward than my last promo piece, which got great reviews from design firms (3 job offers) but zero response from potential clients.
The main idea here is that my work is what I do for fun. I think the best work anyone does is that which engages them so much that it isn't a chore, but rather it becomes more like play. The projects I'll show in the book are tangible results of what happens when I find that kind of real enjoyment in my work. The fact that I get paid for it—even enough to support a wife and child—is icing for me, and I consider myself uniquely blessed.
There isn't a whole lot of text, besides short descriptions for each project. I could've sworn I heard or read someone once say something about work vs. play and how the difference is characterized by partial or full involvement. I was going to use it in the book's intro, but I can't seem to find the quote, so I've decided to just write it in my own words.

^ Oh and I'll be sending these to museums, fine & applied arts publishers, non-profit arts organizations, and higher-end design/textile companies like Knoll, Vitra, Corian, InterfaceFLOR, etc.
