Who's seen this? I saw it last night. Pretty interesting film but it's obviously been shot on digital. There are quite a few 'digital' and thus modern looking scenes which I felt detracted from the 1930s story. I hope all new films won't be shot this way?

good film. I thought it was shot really well, especially considering they used tapeless digital workflow.....

hasn't mann been shooting digital his last few flicks?

Yes, in Collateral and Miami Vice, but those are films set in modern times where digital seems to suit the stories. A 1930's story with camcorder-looking scenes... don't think it works

yeah thats what my mrs said (about digital).
as a film i thought iw as good some of the photography was brilliant like at the start with the rifle (Bale shooting at the guy running away) and the bit in the cell where bale is talking to Depp through the bars... brilliant...Also shows how the FBI was formed and showing the experience of the officers involved.

I read an article with Mann where he talked about the decision to shoot digitally. He said originally he had no intention of shooting it digital but he saw a new camera being demonstrated and he loved the way it dealt with city lights. He then said he never intended to make a fully faithful period piece. He wanted to make a thoroughly modern film about that particular era and the digital approach allowed him to do that.
- When I said "I read an article" I meant to say "Mann and I were discussing this over whiskey chasers".********
- He probably said the same thing about Collateral and Miami Vice.Ruffian
