you could just use a switch (not a router), as long as the router is handing out as many IP addresses as needed (DHCP).
(You said 'hub' but I assume you mean a router is attached to the cable modem)

get a wireless router with a bunch of ports and connect the cable to one of the ports. you'll leave the WAN port on it unused. in the routers setup, give it a fixed IP address out of the range of your main routers DHCP range, and turn off DHCP so it doesn't try to give out IP addresses.

is probably better to set up the wireless router as close to the cable modem and not put in a other room, etc.

doesn't matter where you put the router in proximity to modem, as long as it's under 100 meters, which is max range of cat5e cable
