So, how about design blogs? What are the rules with content and articles then?
If you find the same poster/portfolio/design article/etc in numerous design blogs, how do you know where it came from? If you want to add it to your blog, do you credit the one you got it from?
Are there any rules when it comes to this?

But how would you know if the same article and images are on 4 different design blogs?

I think the bottom line is this -
If someone asks you to take a picture down, they are probably within their rights to do so. Barring that, you should be able to write about whatever you want, and using pictures is probably considered "fair use" - fair use covers journalistic uses of content like music reviews.
As far as crediting the blog you heard about it on, that's more of just being nice than it is a legal issue.

If you are putting serious time and/or making serious money off what you are doing, you can also consider forming an LLC which will shield you personally from most legal liability.
