Rails: can I do it?

I may be redesigning the homepage of a site built on Ruby on Rails, or Ruby or...Rails whatever. I've never touched the stuff but I'm fluent in HTML/CSS and I can hack PHP. So I'm thinking it shouldn't be too tough on the coding side of things. Anything caveats from the peanut gallery before I sign on?

good luck with that!

Ha ha...no seriously. It wouldn't be a lot of structural change, more like heavy stylesheet editing.

Yes.
Rails is fucking awesome. Learn it you'll be happy you did.

I work with a rails app as a front-end developer. If you're simply moving around the elements that already exist, you'll be fine. If you want to add things and reformat groups of display elements, you might run into trouble.
Rails apps don't use stuff like FTP either, so you'll probably need to talk the the dev to get a copy of the app.
Then you'll need a rails development environment.

Rails is pretty easy to work with, if you have any sense of PHP it will probably just seem easier. But yeah, on the front-end you should have no problems (^see moth's comments)
