I've found a new love for this wonderful service. The offline mode is killer too.
If you're still using Word/Excel or whatever, ditch that crap and come into the future.

My wife and her whole crew use google docs- drives me nuts. I dunno, I like having the damn attachment download to my desktop and editing it locally. But then again I still play records...

Once you use it extensively, there's some UI stuff that can be annoying. For instance, seems to be a glitch every once in a while when you change font size or weight. But overall I'm a fan of Google's online apps and I'm sure they will continue to improve, especially with the introduction of HTML 5.
The only online word processor I found that was equally good was Zoho Writer http://writer.zoho.com/home?serv…

yea there are a bunch of problems with font size changes, copy pasted html especially. Screws up the formatting on save, but displays it properly first. Sometimes can't get back to a proper indent length. But that's for fancy crazy documents.
way better than installing some stupid programs, then having to worry about backing up lots of little files.

They're free and not Microsoft.
What more does one need?

I fucking hate formatting anything in Google Docs, but it's proved to be one of the most useful things ever for school. Collaborative tools are great too, when I had to submit band member bios I just invited everyone else to edit it so we could each add our own shit and it was done. It's good shit.

Yeah I'm finding it especially useful for editing across computers. My mac is in the shop for the billionth time, so I was glad I didn't have to track down MS Office or install any crap on my audio workstation to edit some docs I've been working on.
- No more backing up a million word docs and sending them to every email address in case of system fail... +∞ismith

By the way, I downloaded the trial version of Word on one of my machines just cause I needed to open something someone sent me. It won't let you save which I guess is understandable, but the miserly bastards won't even let you cut and paste from a document.
