Robin Soderling (23) def Rafael Nadal (1) 6-2 6-7 6-4 7-6
Could be Fed's year with Nadal out, and Djokovic out – but I think he has a long way to go with possibly Tsonga or Monfils on his side of the draw beforehand.

It seems Nadal is weak at clay. Didn't Federer beat him in Spain on clay court. Nadal may have Sampras' weakness as well.
- nadal weak at clay? this was his first loss EVER at the french openeffort
- Yeah...piss weak.BusterBoy
- ??? nadal was born on clay!
And I don't even like him at all...!VectorMasked

and djoko too? ow... I will watch womens then

Watched it (Sod vs. Nad) and it was f-ing awesome. What a match!

It was an amazing match. Funny to see Soderling in control and not being annoyed by Nadal's long pauses between points (remembering Wimbledon a couple years back – that 5-day match!). I think that, contrary to folks who may think its not worth watching now, it is even more so. Monfils, Tsonga, Murray, Federer, Roddick (for a bit anyway), Gonzalez... there is some great tennis yet to come.

5day match? when did that happen?
- mistyped. their match during 5 days of rain. 2007 Wimbledonletters2

A Murray - Federer final would be nice...
I had 15 quid on Murray to win his match b4 last 3-0 at 14-1 (The odds were high because he was 5-2 down and 30-40 on his serve)... But the opponent withdrew after the 2nd set (with murray cruising at 2-0 up)... so the bet was void... arse!

Federer def. Haas 6-7(4) 5-7 6-4 6-0 6-2
This was amazing. Clearly the pressure was huge coming out today for Fed. And for whatever you think of his game, he is the only guy out there that can dig out the way he did and turn it into a win.

i hope Fernando Gonzalez wins this year.

Gonzalez has a great chance, and deserves it as much as anyone with his showing on clay over the years. Of all the guys left – Gonzalez is the only man to have beaten Federer (he has won 38 matches combined against the others). I appreciate Fed's achievements and want to see him match Pete's record and get the grand slam ... but of the possible matches up and coming, Monfils will be the hardest for him I would think.

Federer, up two sets on Monfils...

Federer. This is his year. French, Wimbledon, US Open
then full acknowledgement that he is GOAT
- letters20
I'm not sure if he is going to cap the masters this year – I don't think that's likely. I'd argue, given his records, that he is the greatest. But if he does get the French this year, there is simply no denying for anyone that he is the GOAT.

If you play yourself and watch what he is doing, there is no doubt that he is the GOAT. I think he really deserves to win this year. Söderling could be a big problem though. Great tennis from him as well!

GOAT = God Of All Tennis?
- letters20
Greatest Of All Time
- randommail0
I can't imagine anyone being hesitant to call him the 'greatest of all time.'
There's no "close" second to him. Only distant runner-ups.

seems like the only person roger has ever had a problem with, really, is nadal. i bet he walks all over the next two guys, the way he did monfils.
