Alright peeps, I've got a question.
What's the legal standing on tracing an image and creating a line drawing / silhoutte of a photograph that isn't yours? Are there any rules? I know that Shepherd Fairy did this with the Obama image and he hardly changed it at all. Is it more of a moral thing?
Anyone know anything about this?
Cheers!

Are you gonna use it for commercial purposes?

I was always taught your piece has to be unrecognizable from the original.

Yeah

I'm thinking of using an image of a guy sat on a chair, but I'm only going to use the shape of him sat on it, very little detail, just a black shape.
What do you reckon?

i've got the copyright on all guys sitting on chairs. pay me and we'll talk.

is it going to be seen by millions of people like Sheperd's HOPE poster?
- Jimbo820
It's never going to be seen my millions of people! It's for a club flier, pretty throw away really.

Just do it, you'll be fine.

shoot your own and trace that out?
- Jimbo820
quick turnaround won't allow it really.
Getting the impression it is all down to how much you change the image.
