Cutting together a bunch of clips, and dropping in some canned dissolves between them. Sequence is set up same as footage (720p, H.264, etc), but I can't get the transitions (the dissolves) to render and then playback. They just stay red. What gives?

This happens to me too sometimes. I select all the footage in my sequence and do a "Render All > Both" from the Sequence Menu. Usually that works for me - assuming you're just using command-R...
Not sure why that happens.- BTW - It happens a lot with H264 in my sequences.blackfrancis

Tried "Render All," no dice. Hmm, I wonder if it is an issue or bug between H264 and FCP version.

Can't remember the render issue happening that far back for me, but we've only recently been getting footage as H264. I'll check around on Creative Cow and see if I can find something to help. Good luck.

you could also try duplicating the sequence and changing the sequence codec to something else and rendering that. h264 is a great delivery codec but not so hot for production. just for shiggles, try using an uncompressed 8 bit timeline.

Yeah, gonna try that when I need to stand back and review the whole thing. It's more of an annoyance at the moment, but I'm still editing so I don't want to rerender all the footage to match the new codec.

Read a few things about people trashing all the render files for the project and re-rendering - this was in 5.x.x - no one wrote back to say if it worked though.

h264 is not an edit format, transcode it to something else.
- also I remember somethign about h264 being a hoor in version 5.chossy
- I wish my clients knew that - they always send / bring shit in H264 - then need an edit right away.blackfrancis
