I checked macrumours a couple of weeks back on behalf of a friend who was interested in buying a Macbook.
I got the impression that no major upgrades were on the way, if anything just basic spec updates. I *think* you guys are due an update relatively soon though.
My pal ended up getting an one of those big screen desktops instead, after I advised him to compare the two. Cheaper, better spec and more useful around the house.

no, don't buy one. get your self a atari. you be safe then.

If the current one does what you need then I wouldn't worry about it. If you felt like waiting though I think upgraded spec is usually up and shipping my mid June.

I'd wait for the new system, coming June I think

I'd wait for June 9th announcement as well. Anyone know what is the health of Steve Jobs?
- appearently, only upgrading software - but not surefrediscrazy

why? When Steve dies, do you think everyone else there is going to begin to make a bunch of bad decisions all of a sudden?

^ No, but when I saw him presenting the unibody laptops, he had lost a lot of weight. I'm just wondering because he has been a great influence not just for Apple but for business people as well as designers.
Pancreatic cancer usually don't make it through apparently.

Not too worried about steve jobs kicking the bucket (like to see him stick around though) - just hate to buy a new mac, only to see them up the processing power for the same price a week after i buy it.
In the olden days, u knew that if there was an apple conference coming up, that the upgrades will happen during that - but nowadays, apple likes to keep u guessing.
- Apple usually gives you 10 days to return. Also, if you use American Express you can use their price/upgrade protection.ismith
- good thinking - hate returning stuff thoughfrediscrazy

there's always a new one on the horizon.
if you need one then get it. if you don't then hold back till you do and get the best one you can at the time.

just buy it already. it's only a mackbook. and since your intention is to buy a macbook there shouldn't be much to worry about. macbook isn't that powerful in the first place.
i say save up some money to get a macbook pro then worry about if the new one is coming out.
and no, i haven't heard of any major update for macbook.

I'm waiting.
If there's a new iPhone launch in June, I doubt we'll see another major hardware release at the same time. However, as Nairn said, the macbooks and mbp's are due for an update....hopefully soon.
Tomorrow would be nice :)
