Google Earth .. games?

    Ok, so those that care are probably well aware that there's a basic flight simulator built in to Google Earth.

    These same people have probably had the thought cross their mind that, given the open-ended nature of GE, other people could start plugging their own games into it too.

    Well, it's been a while coming, and the first stab is probably a little pedestrian for most gamers, but someone's made a Shipping simulator for GE.

    Not that exciting in itself, perhaps (though you'd be wrong), but if you tie this in with Google and Mozilla's recent moves to rebuild 3D web standards, and you can start to build quite an exciting picture of where things might be headed.

    I've wondered since the VRML days about the possibility of huge online games spanning multiple user-created 'website-like' worlds.

    Perhaps this direction will justify the effort in developing 'VRML2'? I know there were a few naysayers when I last posted on that subject.
