    Hi,

I'm printing a litho, high finish, fashion mailer. Got a rich black on one side and a dark image on the other. It's oversize A4 and my question is... What would be a nice stock to print on? I want it to be varnished one side and uncoated the other, if anybody has any reccomendations of a nice stock I would be most grateful, I'd like it to be quite heavy too...

    Cheers!!

How heavy is heavy? Most papers only go to 350gsm max so this will cut down your options unless you want to get really heavy and go a duplexed stock.

Whats you budget? As this will also impact on the paper type.

    Nice uncoated papers:
Robert Horne Cosmic Offset, goes up to 350gms, takes ink well, not too expensive.

McNaughtons Terreus, goes up to 350gsm, again takes ink well but is slightly textured, a good stationery stock.

McNaughtons Regal Ice White 335gsm. Bulky paper, bit more expensive that cosmic, decent.

    Heavy and pricey,
GF Smith Clourplan, comes in good range of weights, option to duplex if you want very heavy, good range of colours, white is good and comes in range of textures.

Strathmore 300gsm very nice white stock, slightly textured good feel, expensive.

Inuit Tactile, 300gsm, lovely paper, great stock. textured, also comes in an ultra smooth.

    Cheapo:
McNaughtons Challenger White Pulpboard, goes up to 380 mic, decent enough but cheap.

Thanks shitehawke, great response. Don't think there is much of an issue with budget, should be able to use something pricey.

In terms of weight, there might be an issue, basically it's a z fold, so I don't want to do too heavy, once it's all folded up it could be too much.

I'm thinking 270gsm McNaugtons Regal Ice White...

No problems, I think the regal only comes in a 335 gsm now. They've discontinued the other weights.

We did an invite for a client recently, used a stock similar to the cosmic offset (but can't for the life of me remember what is was called) it had a double z fold, printed on 300gsm, sealed with a tranparent sticker to keep it closed but it didn't fold quite flat.

That was fine because it was supposed to sit on the recipients desk, but did another mailer that was a 6 page accordion fold on a 250gsm cosmic, the printer wanted to do it on 200gsm so it would fold properly but we needed the extra weight.

I'd get a second opinion from your printer to see what they say about weight but you might be better off going a little lighter.

Yeah that's what I'm worried about, it's a z fold envelope, held shut with a sticker, so I probably am better off going a little lighter, want it to seal shut nicely without a massive bow.

Thanks for the help, much appreciated
