I need a technical drawing of a letter being formed for a typeface.
i.e with circles and lines on showing the reasons for the letterform.
any idea what this type of illustration is called?

Typographer's working drawing? blueprint perhaps. I can't imagine there's a distinct name for it.

Best thing to do would be to google one of the old master's names... Bodoni or baskerville or caslon and see what technical names are given in those articles. I imagine wikipedia would have some good entries for the master typecutters.
