Is it possible to take a 3D animation from 3DS Max,and bring that into Flash with an alpha channel?
I know you can render 3D animations as a quicktime with an alpha channel, which would work fine in something like AfterEffects, but I dont know if this works in Flash.

You could do it 2 ways.
-Import the rendered video with the alpha and convert to FLV.
-Use a vector renderer in 3D Max, which will churn out a the animation as an SWF.

Need more details on that.

- I don't think they make it anymore. That article is 7 years old, btw.harlequino

Well, you render out the video with the alpha channel.
Then, import it into Flash as you would import any other asset. But, flash recognizes the vidoe, and will guide through some options as to how to deal with the file, and how it gets embedded or streamed.
- However, if you render as a SWF fro 3DMax, Flash will recgonize it as a native file.harlequino
- Flash doesnt recognize the alpha channel. Ive tried this before.CygnusZero4
- Yes it will. You have to see the FLV import settings. There is a check box for the alpha.harlequino

If you export your footage as a .FLV file with an alpha channel, you should be able to import it to the Library of your Flash file, and preserve its alpha channel.
I would say export your footage as a .MOV file. Import that file into Adobe Media Encoder and export it as a .FLV file (with transparency), then import that .FLV file into Flash.
- Okay, Ill try that. I dont even know if I have media encoder.CygnusZero4
- I have the CS3 Master Suite. I cant even find Media Encoder. Is this something seperate?CygnusZero4
- The CS3 version of the encorder is called Adobe Flash CS3 Media Encoderkumori04
- Nevermind, Im an idiot. Its called the Flash Video Encoder.CygnusZero4

Damn, I tried importing my render (which does have an alpha channel), in the FLV encoder. Exported the FLV, tried importing that into Flash, and its not seeing the alpha.
- Lol, would help if I clicked the encode alpha channel button.CygnusZero4

Did you get it to work? I forgot to mention that, while in Media Encoder, you must encode using the On2 VP6 codec, which supports the alpha channel. Note that On2 only runs on Flash Player 8 and up.

You can use the Sorenson encoder with an alpha channel too.
