I make a bit less than that mik (but i do get health insurance and a car included) and I have the girlfriend with me who can't work out here... but we still live in our own place (not a share) in a nice part of LA and are probably better off than when the two of use were earning in London.
we are nae rich, but are far from poor.

i looked at corofl0t.c0m salary survey as creative / design director
said the avg. in california is 120k.but most agencies has lower their prices so it might be closer to 100k now.

you should ask for air, hotel, seamstress, relocate, 120k and dance lessons minimum.
