This show just left here (wichita, ks) it was held over 6 months it was received so well. I am flabbergasted at the reviews that call this grotesque and disturbing

necrophilia, for those who don't like the awkwardness of sex with people who are alive.
- skt0
necrophilia; dead boring.

Fuck Bodyworks/worlds/ whatever the hell it is
How would you like to be posed throwing a football or sliced open just so some guy can make money off it? The whole thing is completely immoral and disgusting IMO

Had to dissect cadavers in high school. It was a scene straight of "Fast Times..."
- wait....are you serious?designbot
- yeah, Anatomy class. Senior year.morilla
- wow dude. most people dissect frogs....pretty hardcore.designbot

I heard that the bodies were Chinese prisoners...they were definitely Chinese.

If I was donating my body for "educational" purposes I would expect to be used in a medical lab somewhere behind closed doors, not posed in an exhibit for some company to make money off of.
The exhibit I went to, BTW, which is similar (Bodies) almost certainly did use people without their consent. Mostly prisoners tortured and executed in China.

Bodyworks has been accused of the same thing, but it has not been proven in their case.

It's one thing to use them for education and learning, but using dead bodies in an exhibit and pushing it as "art" is really bad taste.
- version30
It wasn't art a museum I saw it at either, it was a science center called exploration place

I agree completely designbot...and that was after I went in with an open mind (on a date of all things - needless to say, didn't see the girl after that LOL!).
The worst part was not just learning that they used the Chinese bodies without consent but they actually had aborted fetuses and stillborn children on display floating in formaldehyde...truly disgusting!

I don't get why it would be in a science center, what's with the sex positions? I don't see the correlation unlike the regular "Body Works" where it actually made sense.
Quote from the link says it best:
"Kai Wegner, another CDU lawmaker, told AFP. "It is not about medicine or scientific progress. It is marketing and money-making pure and simple."- because sex is sciencescarabin
- okay, fair point. But why use dead skinless people? Dead people don't have sex last time I checked.designbot
- they weren't all sex, there was relaxation./sports/ etc. familiar positions of our livesversion3
- I see. This article must be somewhat sensationalizing the sex part of it then.designbot

I saw this when it was London years ago - the whole idea is a little gross in my opinion.. aesthetically amazing / technically impressive, but I read stories that a lot of the initial bodies had been bought from people in Eastern Block countries from people who are economically disadvantaged - apparently some of the 'plastinated' cadavers still have visible tattoos which verify this story.
The aspect I had most problem with was the art direction - a lot of the poses were pretty tacky / and if I remember rightly there was a Harry Potter tie-in at the exhibition I saw at the Atlantis Gallery exhibition at Brick Lane.
Also the final room included preserved foetuses (!!?!) - a lot of people actually broke down on the day I visited and were in floods of tears.
- totally agree that the poses were tacky and insultingukit

the preserved fetus thing really just drives home the point that abortion is murder, and totally wrong. you can see the little baby formed in there, even at the earliest stages.
i thought it was an excellent display, personally.
