Let's Kill LaCie?

I've had three LaCie drives (circa 2006) fail on me in the last year... all after the one year warranty was expired.
The latest "extreme" drive which ran two disks off an inadequate power supply was Raid 0 and so is near impossible to recover.
And they don't even have the decency to offer spare housings w/ chip sets to run their numb nuts configurations when their first shoddy housing dies.
Anybody else have similar experiences? I see a lot of similar stories online. I think we should go after these idiots. This is very abusive towards consumers.

I think you just answered your own question. LaCie kills itself.

I've had two LaCie d2 drives that have never ever stumbled on me in 4 years running, but I haven't used any of their other drives.

what sucks is that storage technology evolves so fast that your "archive" becomes outmoded in a year or so.

I wasn't pissed the first two times. Now I want blood.
All my music. My old photos.
These fuckwits knowingly are distributing a faulty product.
- Hello China.********
- << what don't you make them yourself then, fucker!!GeorgesII
- if you lost data might be worth trying to replace power supplies, see my comments below.horton
- if you are backing up properly a drive failure shouldn't matter. Sounds like you only archived.ribit
- Well, I lost three drives in three LaCie drives in 4 months... abouthomeostatic

I'm thinking an online storage account, and an SSD Hard Drive should be your next 2 purchases. And a trip to a data recovery specialist... who will bend you over on price, but you may get your data back....
Good luck. Western Digital have never let me down, for the record....

YES! I had two in a row that crapped out on me.

i gave up on local backups...
... i use www.carbonite.com now...
... for the last year - it's saved me three times :)
- i still keep a local backup... that was a lie... but I make sure to have carbonite going non-stopPonyBoy

Why don't you use Twitter to announce your murdering rampage. Who knows where you'll end up? See some exciting places.

I have 3 raid sets up and they haven't failed me. I have never had any problems with their products. Are you on a PC? (I'm on a Mac)

I have 3 lacie drives (250gb each) ive had for 5 years, they still run, but im very paranoid with my data, so I already moved my crap over to Western Digital drives (1tb each) I needed a lot more space.

just a note for anyone reading; i ride a motorcycle, i treat my data like i treat my head. i could have bought a cheaper helmet but my head is worth more than the cheapest product. financially invest in your files, if not your personal, your clients are paying for data you should be backing up for multiple reasons
- I ride bareback, and I treat my clients like $20 hookers...homeostatic

I wanna kill maxtor they have failed on me 4 times

i use to swear by lacie but last year had 2 drop dead on me. D2's 2006/2007-ish.
pretty sure its the power supplies. i was able to get one working for a short time using the other PS, but then that one failed too. just before it fried i noticed a relatively loud buzz coming from the box on the cord.
suppose i could hunt down some new PS's to test theory. but i also got no time to fuss with them.
- I have heard about the PS. Are you talking strictly the AC adapter and cord?homeostatic

Just check out the warranties and you can tell which ones are more reliable. Last time I checked, Seagate had the longest ones, then WD, then Lacie. Of course, personal experience will be the deciding factor for most of you.

dude, i'm with ya... fuck LaCie... those fuckers burned out my mother board, and then i had another one that simply died... fucking ridiculous.
that is all.
