I predict an imminent deluge of facemasks in design, like after the 2003 SARS outbreak.

They say there are 2000 reported hospital cases and near 200 deaths in Mexico. That's only 1/10 chance of fatality...
Oh wait, that's just as deadly as the 1918 Spanish Influenza.
They need to do MORE fear mongering with this, I think. Not because panic is good but because only preventative action will stop this from killing a whole lot of people.
The first thing they need to put strict quarantines on air traffic.
- but that would be bad for the economy!jgrillo
- My father and uncles are airline pilots. But do we want an economy or a population?homeostatic

wow. H1N1 ... herm.
Swine influenza
27 April 2009 -- The Emergency Committee, established in compliance with the International Health Regulations (2005), held its second meeting on 27 April 2009. The Committee considered available data on confirmed outbreaks of A/H1N1 swine influenza in the United States of America, Mexico, and Canada.
http://www.who.int/en/The 1918 flu pandemic (commonly referred to as the Spanish flu) was an influenza pandemic that spread to nearly every part of the world. It was caused by an unusually virulent and deadly Influenza A virus strain of subtype H1N1.

I'll start to worry when I see status updates on facebook referring to people getting sick. So far it's one-in-a-million.

As I read more and more ... the major concern is that the flu is a blend of bird, pig and human virus. Making the virus highly adaptable and ever changing. We have not had something like this for about 40 years and the rapid "deployment" is actually scary. There is a concern it can mutate and blend with others.
I don't know. Call it fear ... but this is really interesting.
- So, can it blend?TheBIueOne
- Don't know, but that is the conern.dibec

Come on now, let's focus on the good. All the cases outside of mexico have been recovered from. It's pretty virulent, but it seems like any case outside of mexico is only mild.

No doubt. I am not fearful, just interested. ;)
