Do you specialize in one or the other? Or do it all?

Just wondering if most people see themselves on a career path towards one or the other.
Interface design for large applications vs. more brand advertising focused design. Or is our profession too small to bother specializing?

i still don't understand the question.
what does user experience / user interface vs flash mean?

Flash: http://odopod.com

UI: User interface
UX: User experience, designs the UI
Flash: an authoring environment.- kind of my point. flash is a tool. why would it be tool vs experience?********

OK, fair enough.
Is Digital Marketing a better term? That also seems too broad.
Branded Online Environments? BOE? :)

Well I work in house at IBM so I guess I'd fall more into the large application category. What you may be asking is are more people consulting the experience without getting into the implementation or are they elbow deep in the code.
I think anyone who can be equally effective at both is a double threat but people that are good at both are harder to come by. Luckily I have teams of developers so I only have to understand code, not write it.

most companies seem to specialize in one or the other, either usable shit or visual computer crashing extravaganza.
But it's probably because some people are just obsessed with extravaganza visuals, no reason they couldn't learn about usability for those, but they might get bored doing plain information sites.

Learn to be a great UI/UX designer, and you can translate those skills across any IDE you choose.
