Hey guys,
I need some more selections of music to play for our other store which is a french gift shop.
So far De Phazz, and Hotel Costes seems to be a hit... anyone have any other choices that would fit the genre? Looking for something that is french influenced jazz/lounge music. Nothing that is loud or has crazy beats. Singing in french is a plus!
Thanks for any help you provide.

Two obvious choices:
France Gall, be careful though, some of her Gainsbourg (he was a creep!!!) songs had her singing obscenities without her knowing it because it was innuendos she was too young to understand. Les Sucettes=oral sex. The rest of her catalogue is pretty french and I hear it covered in vietnamese often.
Joe Dassin, this is non treathening, innuendo free. I think he sang over some Willie Nelson songs. It's still really french.
And I dunno, maybe Yann Tiersen. The soundtrack to Amelie Poulain, that is french.
Annoying french music would be Jaques Brel. If your clientele wears thight black jeans, dislikes soap and drinks coffee all day long, they will prolly like him.
- I will have to check it out. I dont know french so i could play the ignorance card if it gets mentioned. My boss knows french though....Stitchy_Lizard

Another thing, I don't know if this applies or you'll get caught, but I heard France is ultra serious about author's rights, you even have to pay fees to play music at a party?
- well im in canada, so they can come after me if they want.Stitchy_Lizard

Dassin, Boris Vian, Georges Brassen, Sasha Distel are all oldies but goodies.

Some of Daft Punk's stuff is fine.
Novelle Vague (bossa covers of 80s stuff, kinda schocky but your customers will love it).

These guys are fun, but maybe not what you're looking for. They've got a bunch of discs that are pretty good.
