Try as I might, it's been nearly impossible to find the time to design + dev a new portfolio site this year. But it's been a while since I've posted recent work, so I bit the lovely Cargo bullet.

- You can do that easily with any 3d software and photoshop, I would use 3DS max personally.CygnusZero4

Don't ever give away your technique(s). You do your thing and you do it very well. Congrats.
- if that's a reference to my request for the medium, I'm not asking him to give away technique, just the mediumAmpersanderson
- Nothing to do with your comment above, actually. I can just tell that kult has his own unique process.monospaced

@mono: Design isn't about technique –– it's about ideas. Relying on technique leads to short careers.
That said, awesome work –– and very well thought out.

@weldedturkey
This guy is making a living off of his amazing composites, and I can tell that he has his own patented techniques of achieving his unique look. I wasn't criticizing anyone. His "ideas" are concrete, but you can't deny the power of his technique in his work.

Talent and technic are 2 differents things.
He can give away his technique, people will always see whos is talented and who's not.

"This guy is making a living off of his amazing composites, and I can tell that he has his own patented techniques of achieving his unique look"
... I'd say you can't achieve such work relying on the same process.
I see it more as a clever mix of 3D/photoshop and everything needed to get the look wanted.- yes, the clever mixing is the technique, and I was just saying that he should keep it to himself because it's originalmonospaced

I think that perfecting techniques and streamlining the way you work is definitely a component of talent, at least the way it is perceived. I have come to learn that in a lot of design, technique is actually a bigger component than I thought.
I never meant to offend or criticize, or even spark a discussion. I really enjoy kult's work and his technique, and I was congratulating him. Have a nice day, guys.

Thanks for the excellent response! Love to hear positive feedback..
@Ampersand, I don't quite have a real process/technique. I often utilize 3D for a majority of work but I actually wouldn't call myself a 3D person. I'm not a wizard with the software and I basically just think of an idea and try to use a range of familiar tools to get to the effect I want. 3D just helps to really arrange elements/perspective and create a foundation. Everything goes through a lot of illustrating and tinkering in Photoshop.
As for that particular image, the little swarmy creatures were created using Actionscript. I wrote a little script to generate lots of random looking tentacles flying around and then picked a generated composition I liked and layered it in.
- Did you come up with the Actionscript technique by yourself? That's innovative.monospaced
- Yeah I dabble in a lot of experimental AS when I have the timekult
- check you out... you would make Joshua Davis proud... ;)OSFA

i see what you're saying, monospaced. i thought he was asking what he used to get those results, not how he got those results. guess i'm not really interested in 'how' someone gets to something but more in the tools they used to get it. i wouldn't reveal how i do things either because it's a personal process... and besides, what works for me probably won't work for anyone else.
