I think this is a great idea. urban planning is an art. unfortunately, most cities just don't get it.

in the future there will be urban planning that limits space for gigantic cars so they get stuck in traffic.

i live in a street like they drew up in their flash, and trees don't help much. Half of the year, the trees don't look as great as that picture.

We have this sort of streets already in our cities in the interior of the country (e.g Nelas, Viseu, PT). It's neat, but it amounts to naught to the economy. People just want iPods and cars and stuff and every sort of stupidity they can get.
Trouble is not on design - it's on expectations.

Wow, I guess none of these 'new' Amsterdamian people have ever been to the 'old' Amsterdam then ?
First time I went there I was enthralled at the particularly Dutch approach to solving the shared space highway problem... In the first intersection I tried to navigate while stoned, cars came one way, along with hundreds of bikes in a another lane, a set of tramlines next to that, then just past a little island a train ran through, then the whole set of lanes reversed, with lights for all and everyone just stopping and going, and patiently being in their lane, and it all working with the Dutch 'of course' attitude - it's wonderful :)
