Final cut.
- I think its just me but I like Apple Motion also.PIITB
- i think if i hadn't already gotten used to AE when Motion came out, i would probably like Motion.locustsloth
- i thried a Motion tutorial and i felt like i was working with mittens on compared to AElocustsloth
- I think Motion might be as good - but After Effects seems to be the Industry Standard nowadays and therefore probably a better skill to have.clearThoughts

I take it you're PC based? I'd learn them both...premiere is fairly basic but essentially it just an editing program - learning after effects however required dedication...its hard but well worth the time + effort :)

If you just want to do wee things use Final Cut, Premier, After Effects and Motion. If you would like to make a career out of video editing I recommend you also learn Avid in addition to the afore mentioned programs. Good luck and get your learn oaaaaaannnn.

Premiere is pretty simple, and then Final Cut and After Effects.

Depends on what you want to do.
For basic video editing, like people talking, b-roll, etc. Final Cut or Premiere or whatever... I think that they are all pretty much the same - - timeline with video clips, audio track below, tools to cut, make transitions, etc. basic video editing.
If you want to do layered animations, motion design stuff, you will want to get into After Effects. But for basic video editing AE is not a good choice. Doesn't have good real time tools so it is a pain to edit longer videos.

Ok thanks for the breakdowns, I just want the basics, and I think AE is more what I'm looking for.

I agree with twokids. If you are talking about editing, go with Final Cut Pro. If you like compositing/effects/motion graphics go with After Effects or Motion.

After Effects is the standard for motion graphics, and while it can be used for editing, it's not really an editing suite. Its strengths are best used (as the name implies) after you've got an edit or elements together -- it's not really optimized to plow through hours of footage and refine edits with layers of audio etc.
If you're looking to expand your skillset to "video editor" learn Final Cut.

final cut if youre on mac, premiere also good

premiere and final cut are so similar it doesn't really matter which one you use. i personally can't stand avid but can use it if i need to. of the three i use premiere most because of the integration with AE.
