Enjoy that.
Nothing close/convenient to me on that schedule. Fuckers.
What's your take on "Wavering Radient"? I'm digging it.

I like it. I have only listened to it twice though, but I think it is pretty solid. Do you know what tracks Adam Jones played on?
Panopticon is my favorite release by them, I usually use that as a benchmark. I don't know if they will be able to beat that one.
If anyone was to write a perfect song with vast passages and aural bliss journeys they did it with "In Fiction" on that album.
- oceanic is their best work imho.........sublocked
- its a close one for me between those 2********

Not sure which tracks Jones plays, just that he was guesting on the album. Nothing jumps out as out of standard Isis character to me, so his influence on the tracks must be right in line with their general style.
I've had the last three releases on a pretty regular rotation for the last few years, and am working on getting my head around the latest. Definitely a part of the soundtrack to this period of my life.
In addition to "In Fiction", "Maritime", "Backlit" and "1,000 Shards" rank extremely high on my all-time favorite songs list.

I hope they come out with a HD DVD of their shows. I am sure they will at some point. Aaron is a graphic designer as well ( he does all their stuff ), so you know it would turn out fairly decent.

I'll take you up on the first round offer, but I guess I'll have to listen to a few tunes before I determine if I am down with the band.

Threshold of Transformation has Jones written all over it. ( I think )

ok , I listened to it all last night. Very solid album, it has those trademark ISIS moments.

I saw ISIS in Oxford UK just before Christmas. Third time i've seen them and they just keep getting better. Highlights were In Fiction and Backlit, just awesome. I'd love to join you in San Diego but there's a fucking recession on people, have you no shame :).
Enjoy.

So.... A great show. I was very impressed, as this was my first time seeing them live. They mainly played a bunch from the new album and a couple others from their earlier releases. The highlight for me is when they played "In Fiction", such a epic song.
Unfortunately I was stuck next to a douchetard with 3inch hoops who repeatedly told everyone how he saw them 10 years ago when they still lived in Boston ( one of those jaded scenster pizza delivery fucks with PBR in hand).
I thought that they would be more overwhelming because of all the low end density they have in their material. But they had their shit dialed perfectly and it was tight as hell. And not to mention they are spot on live, close you eyes and it's like listening to the album. If you can catch these guys I highly recommend it.
One thing I will dork out on though..... So it seems the guys have obviously been hit with endorsement deals. Their entire backline is now Freyette ( used to be VHT). Which is cool, good amps. BUT...
It seems they have ditched their old guitars (Les Pauls and Teles) for brand spanking new ones and aluminum and that ( well the necks are ). They are made by the Electrical Guitar Company and I don't know if I really dig their decision. For one reason, I could hear a tonality difference with these new aluminum guitars. I know they did not use these on the new record and confuses me to why they are now. I get their reasoning being that they are in B and F# an they need their guitars to compensate for that bitch of a tuning. But the warmth, the bite, the rich tones of their clean passages they had with their old guitars is a little different now. My friend said I was nuts and to quit nit picking shit.
I am sure they could have called up Fender and Gibson to have them design them a couple of baritone guitars for them. And another thing, it kind of looks corny when all 3 guitar players are playing the exact same guitar. It's like a little kids baseball team wearing their shiny new helmets that were bought by their sponsor, plastered with their logo all over it. Not to mention they are kind of ugly looking guitars.
// End Rant. I still love the band though.- Thanks for writing that up. You paint a great picture. I'd love to catch this tour, but nothing is close.blaw

Saw them last night in San Jose. The openers sucked but just went to prove how GOOD ISIS is live.
Played a tight show, tracks were spot on. They closed with Carry and another track off Oceanic...Great fucking set. Loved it.

I saw that you were going, I was going to ask how it went. Who was the opener? If it was the same I wasn't to impressed with them either.

I've seen them a couple of times here in Melbourne. First time was on the Panopticon tour at a tiny venue - fucking blew me away, definitely one of my most memorable gigs. If you get a chance check out Red Sea, Celestial and Mosquito Control, early dirty stuff...
(Oh and Adam Jones plays on the first track I believe)

Ha, I was there too (I was wearing the shirt with the tooth on fire) and couldn't disagree with you more about Helms Alee. They fucking killed it IMO. The drumming was tight and aggressive and the guitar was well matched. Actually, I noticed Isis losing sync several times through their set. Still a great show all around though.
- lol....i left and got a super burrito and came back for the ISIS set.sublocked
- ...was the tall skinhead with a black kangol and brass knuck 10deep shirt.sublocked
- we got our super burritos afterwards :D We'll have to get them at the same time next time.ninjasavant
