"In conception and characteristics, Wikipedia is distinctively a creature of the internet: vast, sprawling and of dramatically variable quality. It is also, by design, an anti-intellectual project. Wikipedia recognises no intrinsic value in competence or knowledge; its guiding principle is agreement rather than truth."
Interesting(ish) opinion piece about the possible life-threatening flaw in the heart of Wikipedia

Which is precisely why I'm terrified when I hear people say the first place they went for information is Wikipedia. This is something I hear predominantly from Generation Y, or Generation i(Pod).
Garbage In = Garbage Out
But I thought everyone knew that already?

wikipedia is only useful for online arguments.

What is the point of commenting f you haven't read the article? Do you just like to see your name on the screen or something?

I didn't like the article. It feels like the author himself looked up in wikipedia for arguments...
...a while ago, I read this article about 'Wikipedia and the Meaning of Truth': http://www.technologyreview.com/…
better scientific founded reading about the matter.

I love the acts of vandalism though.
On Micachu;
"She is most famously remembered for a promotional free show which took place in October 2008 in HMV Oxford Street. During
the set she played each song from her album Lone Ranger backwards (including some impressive reversed vocals) whilst
simultaneously naked and bent over, with her back towards the audience. Mid-performance she invited any interested viewers to penetrate her openly "with as much violence as you feel is necessary: my soul is long gone". Over 350 attendees accepted the offer before the store had to be closed for reasons of health and
safety due to the increasingly slippery floor. "

This goes back to Ted Nelson's ideas about Transclusion
http://video.google.com/videopla…We're capable of rewriting history, but was was history ever to be trusted in the first place? Let the best stories win.

I cannot but agree with that article.
Consensus is not limited to the Wikipedia, though. In the arts, for instance, it seems to be the organising principle.

my favourite dutch television station made a documentary about this last year
