Seriously... someone please tell me why fireworks needs to exist anymore... I have no idea... some one put me in my place about this subject matter.

I saw that one coming...

lol... its a mystery to me... I could see in the early hay days of photoshop but since cs2.... does it really need to still be?

I switched from pshop. It's definitely worth it.

i'm going to go out on a limb and say, it's because some people prefer a stripped down web-only web-ready toolset to the massive application that is photoshop. especially if they're only web developers.
i could be wrong. maybe people just dig the name. go figure.

Animated GIFs.

You should start a blog about all this shit

fireworks pngs retain vector data, retain preset rounded corner sizes when free transforming boxes

i have Fireworks because i can't open animated gifs in Photoshop CS3 to edit them. Photoshop is only good for creating some simple frame by frame animations.

Another vote for Fireworks.
Using Photoshop for web is like using Illustrator for web.
It's just fucking dumb. :)

Is there much that it does that photoshop doesn't do? I must admit Iv only used if for animated gifs.

@wademd: Seriously, are you a web designer? Or a designer at all? Take your frustrations elsewhere...
Fireworks is the best web design program available.
That being said, you can still make websites in Photoshop...Fireworks can be used for wireframing, designing quick mockups or full websites much easily than using Photoshop.
Plus it has full vector capabilities and it works wonderful with Flash and Illustrator. But hey, anyone is free to use whatever it wants...

November 5th?

Its pretty good at what it does, but stick with CS3 because CS4 has a text engine bug that renders the entire program useless (seen as you spend half of your time in it laying out text)

I'd use it if supported all font formats. Deal breaker for me.

fireworks is an amazing program, I use it for all my web-designing, I don't see why I need to use photoshop to design websites, when everything I want to do I can do much easier in fireworks.
Although Fireworks CS4 doesn't work in the office...or on either of my home imacs, what a stupid idea to release a program that wont open.

Akiraprise, did you install the prerelease beta version of Fireworks that Adobe had on their site about 6 months before the release? If so that fucks up the licensing system and you need to run the CS4 cleaner script.
Then again Fireworks CS4 seriously is worthless, I mean what use is a program that keeps shifting your text around when you ungroup things or edit them. Stick with CS3 and hopefully Adobe will get the message they have to start putting more effort in if they are gonna charge that bullshit price
