We are starting a small studio in Berlin – currently we are operating under the name of „FUK“ which was derived from „forever under konstruction“ (misspelling intentional), the URL is fuklab.org.
Well, we‘re not quite sure if it‘s a good idea – do you think it‘s too offensive (let‘s say if you were a rather conservative client)? Consider that „fuck“ has become a quite common swear word in Germany too. Opinions please!

what do you really think?

You're asking this after you've already started? Sort of late to field the question isn't it?
- chossy0
You won't get a single corporate client.
- shitehawke0
It really depends on what you're aiming for I think.
FCUK is intentional and isn't being harmed by the obvious association with the work 'fuck', but your one sounds to me and I mean no disrespect here, like a student name for a project thats trying to be 'daring'. Whats reinforcing this impression for me if the mispelling of konstruction. Why not just be FUC? or pick a new name?

I don't find it offensive, I do find it immature, uninspiring and ultimately; lame.
imagine answering the phone... "HELLO FUCKLAB" is bad enough, "FUCKLAB GUTENTAG" in german accent.. well I say!

Don't do it.

i think you are looking to gain attention from the onset of the user who sees for the first time the name of your company and to you and your colleagues you are banking on that as a selling point to open this very conversation with your new potiential clients...
its a weak starting point to me... if you sense the argument already b4 it even starts... it can offend some even after the description of where its heritage stems from.
so it seems you may be searching for that controversy and not caring what people really think to the name...
is it the name that defines you or your product or is it the work that defines the name of the product that defines you?

a name like FUK is ok if you are just going to be designing flyers for club nights or other 'cool' things, but dont expect any corporate companies coming your way. - the stuff that pays the bills.
- max_prophet0
How about "Ceep On Kontructing" (misspelling intentional ya)
COK
yo!

Imagine yourself in a meeting with some important people, answering the question "why did you choose the name FUK?"
Feel happy with that?
- shitehawke0
For some reason Im just thinking of some Nathan Barley type situation where you're explaining your 'credos'.
You could register in Denmark and be fuk.dk?

i was initially going to post a question asking if you guys were straight out of college and were setting up a new company.
as yes, it does seem like a cool name for a bunch of freelancers who will be working on cool stuff, but its only you's that will see that as a cool name, everyone else will find it immature like max prophet and shitehawke said.

I guess you'd have to name it FAK (read in German) to sound like the word "fuck" pronounced in English, so it is different.
FUK read in German sounds like the Irish pronounciation of "fuck", but most Germans (or the rest of continental Europe) don't know it.

In outer space it's pronounced frak

Reminds me of the famous headline from the Daily Express
Sir Vivian Fuchs off to Antarctica

Some of the apprehensions mentioned above we had ourselves, that‘s why I was starting this survey here... Appreciate your honesty, thanks, and keep it coming.

depends how you want to position yourselves and your aspirations for the business. but you already thought of that before you printed your business cards, eh?
if you want to work for niche, small, cool brands you might get away with it.
