Brand or no?

Need some help. I have a client who I went through several rounds of identity last year, only to go under and stop all work. They've resurrected themselves but under a new name and now want to revive the branding process.
Here's the catch; they want to repurpose one of the designs I gave them for the new name. I can't show any work or even mention the company as I signed an NDA. But the names, both old and new, are so foreign to each other that the logo work doesn't connect.
The question is, aside from utilizing an identity that doesn't speak to the company name, they intend to begin the branding process again at some future point. Meaning this brand is just temporary; a stop gap. Should I advise them against branding the current company name for now? And why?
whew...long, sorry.

i'd compose a nice type based logo – spend a day or two and be done with it until next time.

do it, bill it, done.

If you already worked with them, then stop, and after a year they appear again they are not very serious business people.
Change the name, get it done, get paid and move on!

Thanks all. I agree, it's not worth hassling them about it, although I intend to give them my professional opinion (not that they'll listen), then give them the mod and be on my way.
cheers, you suck, now pay me.

UPDATE!
The client response: "I totally get what you’re saying now that I’ve seen the treatment. We’ve been using a simple text treatment to date and will likely continue to use that until we have solidified our name and have the time and money to do this properly. Thanks for humoring me..."
It's a rare moment, and I don't know what to do with it...

Send them a bill for the conversation, and for wasting your time.
