I wonder how different the country would be if they somehow had money and food. I wonder if it would be as bad.

its a lot harder than you think,
they never chose to be up north when the country got divided,
I met lots of famillies that have no contact with their relatives for the past 50 years,
kim jong il is bat shit crazy but you can pardon him, its not his fault he was raised to be that way, who divided the two koreas,
if you want to understand n.korea,
answer these questions
_who has been stationed there for the past 50 years,
_what group invested massively in the south korean banking system to years ago during the imf crisis
and off course
_who profits from having a crazy menace in the eastern border right next japan (actually the only menace to japan is N. korea and china)

I was there last year. I am sure I got a biased view of the country. All the North Koreans I met were totally fanatical about the leader and the Juche idea. Every fricken thing is for the great leader.
Beautiful place though, all the people I met were really nice. Even after asking them so many questions about things like where they would go if they were allowed to travel and if they were happy etc.
I loved it when we saw the Arch of Triumph and the first thing they said was 'Its Bigger than the Arc de Triomphe in France'.
If you ever get the chance go there, go to the Arirang Games. One of the most amazing things I have ever seen in my life.

This might be a stupid question but.... do they have internet? Like are they allowed to surf the web freely? I have never thought about that, seems like their pretty locked down.

^ I seriously doubt it. North Koreans don't even know a man landed on the moon.
