Ive placed an all-vector AI file within another, the image is too large. I can only rescale it with the bounding box, Id like to rescale the actual image within the bounding box...
I know you can do this with InDesign...

Probably should try doing it in InDesign, then.
By bounding box do you mean clipping mask? If so, double click on the placed image, and then scale down the contents of the "bounding box"/clipping mask. I hope that helps.

confused?
you "file>placed" an AI inside an AI, or cut and pasted the artwork?
if not C&P try that way. sounds like it was placed in as an AI-PDF image.

Yes I file Placed an AI file (which then places as a PDF).
I want to use Place as I dont want to change 10 files if I make changes to the Placed object. The bounding box just appears around the placed object, im not using a clipping mask.
Seems silly they would leave out a resize function.

or if you really need an AI placed as an image inside an AI (for updates or some other reason mb) then you would go to your links palette and click on the pencil to open and edit the original.
or click on the placed file, top left corner menu you can access the edit pencil.

if i understand you gist; if the part you want to resize is within the placed image (ie part of the same file) then you'll have to resize it in the original file.

or just drag a corner of bounding box to resize placed image. shift to constrain proportions.

Figured it out.
If u place an oversized image u can only scale it with the bounding box (ive no idea what determines the size of that).
If u select 'Trim' when u place, u can rescale it as normal, the other modes dont do that.

- I'm not sure if your definition of a bounding box is the same as ours, or Adobe's, for that matter.monospaced

By bounding box I just mean the box that surrounds the placed object.
My lingo may be wrong.
