i remember walking into a lone star comics store when i was younger, all the free time in the world, nothing better to do.
there were two employees engaging a few customers in a passionate debate over i don't remember exactly what, but some obscure detail of star wars or something. they just went on and on about the minutia of some scene or character that lucas himself probably never even considered..
are these the kinds of folks that comic-con is comprised of?

^Yup, lots of those folks, but they're all good people. If it's not your thing, just don't get stuck in a conversation. It gets weird. But a lot of these ComicCons are now major launch pads for all kinds of entertainment, especially sci-fi fantasy movies, video games, everything. So the crowd is more diverse now.
I like watching all the cos-players, the folks who dress up as characters. That can get REALLY strange. I was at the NY con a couple months ago, and their were these kids all dressed up as characters from some obscure anime thing, and they were reenacting battles. So basically they were 'playing'.

If you're a girl and you ever want to know what it feels like to be worshipped for a day or so, here's what you do -
Dress up as slave Leia from Jedi and hang around the con. If you're cute and have a good body, you will the most worshipped human in the whole complex, surrounded by gawking fans snapping countless pictures.
