My band is playing at Subterranean this Thursday down in Wicker park. You've known us as The Atlantic Divide since 2004, this will be our last show under that name as we are making a well timed switch to the shorter, sweeter, Looming Lights.
We're also going back to a 3 piece lineup for the first time in a few years and really excited about the less-is-more gamble we're taking right now.

why are you changing your name?

I won't call it a revelation, but on Saturday I had all these thoughts merging together of being tired of explaining the name to people. When we came up with the name in 2004 it wasn't a term that was very popular. Now, if you search google for it, you'll find us at the top but also a ton of stuff about political rifts between the US and Europe since Sept 11th.
I've been feeling boxed in by always trying to write about oceanic themes, or more so, feeling tied to that with posters and imagery. I pretty much just wanted something that didn't have to mean anything.
On top of that I was at a party Saturday and just got tired of having that mouthful of a name to tell people. We're working on a new album that we plan to release in May and really make the biggest effort we've ever made at publicity and all that, so we figured it was the right time to do something different.
So, onto new imagery, web site, etc. for Looming Lights and I'm already driving myself insane trying to find the perfect typeface for it. :D

It's funny, Looming Lights is one of our song names that we wrote back in 2006, and I'd never actually looked it up until this past weekend and found that book on ebay.
